Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Owner Oscar Carillo, who started the company in 1984 and retired Oct. 16, will continue as a consultant with King Fresh on organic farming methods, according to a press release.

Carillo Organic Farms, which farms 38 acres, was certified for organic crops by CCOF in 1987, and certified for handling in 2015.

Dinuba, Calif.-based King Fresh, founded in 1933, maintains vineyards and farms on 3,000 acres in the San Joaquin Valley, growing table grapes, cherries and citrus. The company also has farms in Chile, Peru, and Mexico, where it grows table grapes when the California season ends.

With the acquisition, King Fresh President Keith Wilson wants the company to be a leader in the organic grape market.

“We are excited to further our organic grape program and learn from Oscar’s 30 plus years of experience with organic farming methods,” said Wilson. "As we look to differentiate and build our one-stop shop, the road ahead is full of opportunities."
