Bridges Import Pears, Stemilt, SGS Adds Organics, Veg Supply Issues, Market News, and More…
Stemilt Growers recently extended its packing line by 10,000 square feet to improve the quality of bagged apples, adding a second defect sorter and multiple automated bagging machines. The new line helps to reduce hand-to-fruit contact and meet consumer demand for bagged organic apples.
The full effect of the annual transition of fresh organic vegetable supplies from winter to spring/summer production is still about a month away, but grower-shippers are already bracing for supply challenges.
Bridges Organic Produce’s import organic pear season has begun, with Early Bartlett pears available starting last week. Green Bartlett pears will become available in mid-March, followed by Red Bartletts, Autumn Bartletts, Anjous, and Red Anjous in April.
Scattaglia Growers and Shippers began with a desire to deliver colorful, flavorful, and delicious fruit to the consumer while ensuring a good return to the grower.
