Organic Market Update

Week 46, 2021

Green Beans/French Beans

OPS 2024 Retailer Reg square

Organic Green Bean volumes are improving throughout various growing regions in mid-November. While not promotable for Thanksgiving this year, greater availability will provide steady supplies for the holiday, with production from Florida, Mexico, and California. 10/1lb Organic French Beans are available with steady supplies through Thanksgiving. This is a great alternative to Green Beans, and quality has been excellent.

Apples

The first Organic Cosmic Crisp Apples are now available. This Honeycrisp and Enterprise cross is known for its deep red skin color and crunchy flesh. Organic Opal Apples will be in tight supply for the rest of November, and increasing heading into December, as CA rooms start to open. Organic SugarBee Apples are selling very well, as this crispy, crunchy, super-sweet apple has been a hit this season. Organic McIntosh Apples will finish for the season in mid-November.

Vitalis April 2024

Onions

Organic Onions are looking fantastic right now in terms of quality from Nevada. Pricing will be steady through the end of November, and product is extremely promotable.

Sweet Potatoes

Now is a great time to start stocking up on Organic Sweet Potatoes and building some larger than normal displays for the holidays. Pricing on all items will be steady through the end of the year.

Homegrown Organic Farms April 2024

Citrus

Organic Navel Oranges are off to a slow start due to earlier rain. Supplies should increase leading up to Thanksgiving expecting greater promotability heading to Christmas. The first Organic Satsuma Mandarins are now available in steady supply. Organic Grapefruit, Lemons, and Limes are all expected to remain in excellent supply through late Fall.

Broccoli/Cauliflower

Organic Broccoli production from California has improved and Thanksgiving availability has a more positive outlook than the conventional crop, with decent volumes, easing pricing, and better quality. Organic Cauliflower from California is also in steady supply, but volumes are expected to tighten as Thanksgiving approaches. Growers will transition from Salinas to SoCal and Yuma, AZ growing regions, which can cause gaps in supplies or major price increases. However, this year expect the transition to be smooth on Organic Broccoli, while Organic Cauliflower may see some issues.

Creekside Organics April 2024

Berries

Organic Blueberries continue to be in excellent supply with great quality out of all regions, and very promotable through the holidays. Organic Blackberries remain in tight supply heading into Thanksgiving. Availability should improve, and prices will begin to ease off, as December approaches. Organic Raspberry supplies are limited but expected to improve after Thanksgiving. Organic Strawberry supplies are expected to continue to get tighter through the holidays with prices on the rise.

Avocados

Organic Hass Avocado supplies are steady and pricing firm in late November. Organic Fair Trade Hass Avocados from Equal Exchange in Mexico are available in 48ct and 60ct.

Brussels Sprouts

OPS Retailer Reg leaderboard

Organic Brussels Sprouts production from Mexico remains strong in November, as heavy volumes create a perfect promotion for Thanksgiving.
