Ever since inflation began heating up in 2021, Earl’s Organic Produce has tackled the challenge head on, bolstered by its strong relationships and communication with growers and customers. Director of Sales and Marketing Drew Knobel shared that Earl's has even seen significant unit growth in a couple of categories despite the down market.
Designed to reduce fraud in the organic supply chain and increase confidence in the USDA organic seal, the Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) rule is set to take effect in March, 2024. The impact of this new rule will be felt by the entirety of the organic fresh produce supply chain.
While the 2023 California avocado crop has been estimated to be about 10 percent below its four-year average with a volume of 257 million pounds, shipments of organic avocados are expected to be down by an even greater percentage. A pair of California grower-shippers offered different perspectives on how this lower volume will impact pricing.
