Last month, Mother’s Market & Kitchen opened a new store in Hollywood, making it the health food retailer’s third Los Angeles location and twelfth store overall. OPN caught up with Senior Director of Produce & Floral James Saldutti to hear his thoughts on fall/winter produce favorites, Regenerative Organic Certified options, the current inflationary environment, and more.
A trio of organic vegetable producers agreed that supplies from Southwest growing areas are starting to pick up, easing the tight market situation on most crops. They also agreed that while FOB prices are falling, they are still in a strong position relative to a year ago.
Despite the fact that there have been National Organic Standards Board draft standards for organic apiculture on the books since September 2001, the National Organic Program has yet to implement a formal rule on the subject.
The majority of fresh produce shoppers have price at the top of their list. There is, however, more than only price that attracts consumers into making purchases—there's also "product quality" and "purchase value."
