As the demand for organic produce continues to grow, more and more farmers are seeking assistance and resources that can get them on the path to adopting regenerative organic methods. And the leaders and staff of the Rodale Institute’s Southeast Organic Center are taking on the important mission of fulfilling that need.
It was back in 1976 when father and son Joe and Stan Silva started Doreva Produce, and over the past four decades, three generations of the family have worked at the company, which today offers a full line of yams and sweet potatoes out of Livingston, California. In the past few years, Doreva Produce has made tremendous strides in growing its organic fresh product category by increasing its organic acreage and expanding its organically grown varieties.
Misidentification of produce items at the register, particularly when it comes to ringing up an organic item as conventional, can significantly harm a store’s financial performance. Fresh Thyme is tackling this common problem with their new Organic Identification Program.
The USDA has released the final rule for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), a program that is administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Through the CSP, which involves a five-year contract with the NRCS, landowners are financially incentivized to maintain and enhance their conservation activities.
