Country Sweet Produce provides consumers with organic commodities from its own farming operation as well as other growers. According to Country Sweet’s founder Michael Valpredo, the company’s mission is to “grow and nurture the finest and most flavorful produce in the greatest agriculture region in the world.”
Organic strawberries are in a demand-exceeds-supply situation, with prices rising. According to the California Strawberry Commission, organic strawberry volume from California is up about 20 percent this year compared to last season.
Scott Schuette is vice president of produce at Fresh Thyme Market, a natural foods retailer headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois. Fresh Thyme opened its first store six years ago and has since grown to 73 locations spanning 11 states. OPN recently caught up with Scott to talk about about Fresh Thyme’s organic produce program, organic produce trends, and more.
