Despite a rocky start to the year, grape crop production is expecting a very good July. Weather variation is the main culprit for the longer and lighter season, but experts are forecasting a strong end to the season.
Robert Lichtenberg is director of purchasing at Earl’s Organic Produce, a full-line organic produce distributor based in San Francisco. Founded in 1988 by Earl Herrick, Earl’s currently distributes 1,200 pallets of organic produce per week to its nearly 300 customers. Robert joined OPN to talk about his background as a farmer, organic produce sales trends, and more.

Bridges Organic Produce began in 2002 sourcing from a single tree-fruit grower. Today, Bridges operates year-round programs in a variety of commodities, and about 97 percent of the produce it sells annually is certified organic. Founder/President Ben Johnson said the category is continuing to gain converts.
