T&G Global Expands Envy Apple Footprint

Known widely through its US subsidiary, EnzaFruit Products Inc, T&G global offers a unique range of apples, including the Envy variety.

“Envy apples have driven double-digit growth three years running and consolidated its position as the No. 1 apple brand sought after as an everyday premium apple,” said Vince Lopes, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Envy Apples.

“With a dedicated team that crafted the process of growing the Scilate apple variety, trademarked as Envy apples, selecting pristine orchard sites with the ideal ecosystem to secure best possible growing conditions, we deliver a high-quality eating experience year-round, expanding from the initial New Zealand import program,” Lopes said.

The Envy is a great-performing premium apple with strong consumer traction.

“People try Envy and immediately fall in love with this great-tasting apple [and its] consistent quality and amazing texture,” Lopes said. “Envy brings new shoppers to the organic set and is able to drive high shopper frequency as well. We have recent data showing the organic Envy customer is worth so much more to the retailer from a total basket perspective and more.”

In an effort to grow in the organic space, the company has increased supply, boosted consumer awareness, added new orchards, and brought in new shippers.

“Despite the abundant industry crop, Envy has successfully built even greater momentum and is one of the highest-percentage shipped varieties in the market,” Lopes said. “A remarkable accomplishment indeed. Household penetration is a great story with continued increases, and there is still even much greater share opportunity to be had for Envy.”

In 2024, leadership is excited about the high consumer and retail acceptance of both conventional and organic Envy apples.

“Repeat purchase is high and it is common for us now seeing Envy being endorsed and praised in the media by consumers and celebrities alike discovering and claiming Envy as their new favorite apple,” Lopes said. “Projected growth is steady. We are expanding plantings in other geographical locations for local relevance and freight savings to market.”

Last year, the premium Envy apple brand reached a new milestone with the first commercially produced Chinese Envy apples to be sold in China.

“To meet forecast consumer demand of 18 million tray carton equivalents by 2030, we need to maximize our multi-country sourcing strategy across the Northern and Southern Hemispheres,” the company said. “That’s why we license the growing of Envy in Aotearoa, New Zealand and in other countries, including now China. Doing this helps ensure the continual availability of this premium brand and that consumers and retailers have confidence in the legitimacy and quality of the fruit.”

Up ahead in the calendar year is a new sustainable pack solution that will be unveiled in a scaled approach throughout 2024.
