Organic Market Update

Week 27, 2021

Stonefruit

Peak season for Organic Stone Fruit continues through July. The early part of the month will be the best time this year to promote Organic Dark Sweet and Rainier Cherries, while supplies are plentiful, and quality is very good. There has been an extreme heat wave in the Pacific Northwest that will impact some of the cherry crop and end the Rainiers earlier than expected. Out of California, quality has been excellent on Organic Yellow and White Peaches, Yellow and White Nectarines, Plums, Pluots, and Apricots.

Grapes

Organic Grapes remain promotable and will continue to transition over the next two to three weeks from Mexico to California. Organic Cotton Candy Grapes will continue through mid-July along with Organic Jelly Berries and Candy Hearts.

Peppers

Organic Colored Bell Peppers continue to see limited supplies and higher prices, with conditions expected to improve by mid-July. Organic Mini Peppers continue to see strong supplies from Mexico, and promotable pricing. As July begins, expect pricing to increase slightly as supplies normalize. Organic Green Bell Pepper supplies have quickly rebounded as we move into July. Expect improved pricing and availability out of the Carolinas.

Cucumbers

After a small disruption in production due to weather, Organic Cucumber production in the Carolinas is now in steady supply with strong quality. Production will continue to move north throughout the summer, with Northeast production expected to begin in early to mid-July. Organic Mini Seedless Cucumber pricing has increased very quickly as volume from Canada has slowed down due to rain and cloudy weather.

Celery

Organic Celery and Celery Hearts volume from California continues to remain plentiful. Overall volume and quality are strong, with aggressive pricing available. Organic Celery from Pennsylvania has started production, with supplies limited entering July.

Broccoli

Organic Greens from Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas continue to experience outstanding yields heading into July. Expect plentiful supplies and promotional opportunities throughout the month on Chards, Fennel, Parsleys, Kales, and Dandelions.

Corn

Organic Bi-Color Corn production from the Carolinas began in late June. Supplies are strong and quality is outstanding, providing the perfect combination to promote. As the summer continues, expect supplies to move up the East Coast. Pennsylvania and New York production is expected to start in mid to late July.

Tomatoes

Organic Tomatoes on the Vine pricing will increase as supplies slow down for the summer season. Greenhouses will begin to pull and replant crops for the fall and winter harvests. Organic Beefsteak Tomato pricing will also increase as Canadian growers begin to finish for the season. Organic Roma Tomato supplies continue to be steady out of GA and NC. Pennsylvania farms are expected to start with light volume mid-July, with promotable volume available in August. Organic Locally Grown Round Tomatoes are expected to begin with light volume in mid-July.
