Mastronardi Produce's SUNSET Brand Puts Flavor First

Mastronardi Produce is a fourth-generation, family-owned produce company and the first to bring commercial greenhouse growing to North America.

It was back in the 1940s when the family came up with a vision to provide everyone with fresh greenhouse-grown fruits and vegetables, leading it to become a pioneer in greenhouse growing.

Over the years, the company has maintained a strong focus on flavor as it has evolved and adapted, blending technology with family tradition to produce high-quality non-GMO fruits and vegetables.

The company recently unveiled some exciting innovations and developments at the PMA Fresh Summit. Mastronardi's newest addition to the SUNSET line of premium-branded organic offerings are its Organic Wild Wonders, a colorful mix of certified organic grape tomatoes that come in various sizes, shapes, and flavors from all around the world. And since no two packages are the same, customers will get a different taste adventure every time.

Mastronardi Produce invests significantly in research and development, which helps it discover new and improved ways of growing and harvesting. These varieties, including Organic Campari, are a result of the time and dedication it has put into finding and growing “the best-tasting fruits and vegetables on the planet.”

All SUNSET organic produce has been certified through the USDA National Organic Program and the Canadian Organic Regime. The company’s facilities are also regularly audited and certified by Quality Assurance International.

“Evolving as a provider of high-quality organic produce means that we will continue investing in new research and development in greenhouse growing and organic production,” Ducharme said. “We are proud to be the first fresh produce company to be Non-GMO Project Verified and the first to implement SQF standards. We’re always looking for new ways to be sustainable while making our organic produce—and how it tastes—that much better.”

Over the years, technology has allowed the company to grow more while using less resources, and this has also helped it remain a leader in the industry.

“Even as technology improves in greenhouse growing and production, more and more consumers are looking for healthier, environmentally sustainable alternatives,” Ducharme said. “While this is a massive opportunity, it can also become a challenge. The demand for organic produce is becoming greater, and with quality and flavor at the forefront, we must ensure that our focus on delivering the best remains strong, even as demand increases.”

As the largest greenhouse vegetable provider in North America, the company is thrilled to be leading an industry that’s becoming even more sustainable and innovative, bringing better-quality food to more and more people.
