Organic Market Update


Week 22, 2021

 

Stonefruit

OPS 2024 Retailer Reg square

California Organic Peaches and Nectarines are in good supply for at the beginning of June, with excellent quality. Organic White Flesh Peaches have just started production, with Organic Donut Peaches gapping for a week or so until the next variety is harvested in early June. South Carolina Organic Yellow and White Flesh Peaches will be available in limited quantities to start the month. The first Organic Red Plums and Flavorosa Pluots are set to arrive later this week.

Cherries and Apricots

Organic Cherries should be in steady supply out of California starting June, with a clean transition to production out of Washington. Prices are trending higher but should begin to ease throughout June. California growers are now into good supplies of Organic Apricots, with the Coral and Trinidad varieties.

Cucumbers

Georgia's crop is beginning to yield stronger supplies to start June. Expect to see stable supplies through mid-June and superb quality. Organic Cucumbers remain plentiful and aggressively priced from Mexico with excellent quality.

Cauliflower

Organic Cauliflower availability and pricing remain stable to begin June. Production of East Coast Organic Cauliflower season is expected to start in early June, providing some relief in pricing as supplies increase. Organic Romanesco will also be available in early June.

Onions and Potatoes

A new crop of California desert grown Organic Onions will be available the first week of June, with nice quality and a projected consistent supply. Organic Russet Potatoes are expected to start out of California in early to mid-June. Improved quality out of Colorado on old crop potatoes shows steady supplies through the month. Organic Red and Gold Potatoes are in better supply, as production moves into the California growing season.

Grapes

Organic Grape season has begun out of the Sonora, Mexico desert growing region. Organic Green Grapes will be in light supply as the season starts, with many of the earlier arrivals the Prime variety, which are bigger and sweeter than the traditional first of the season PerlettesOrganic Red Grapes will be Flame variety, which will be very sweet and crunchy, but small.

Tomatoes

Organic Beefsteak and Roma Tomato prices remain steady out of Canadian greenhouses, with quality rated as excellent. Organic Cluster Tomatoes will be promotable from Canada, as harvests continue to flush, and quality is excellent. Organic Grape Tomatoes from Florida will be available with limited supplies, while Organic Heirloom Tomatoes out of Mexico continue to be available and quality is excellent.

Cantaloupe and Honeydew

Creekside Organics April 2024

The first California Organic Cantaloupes will come into season early this month, with mostly 12ct fruit, and very little 9ct fruit to start. Organic Honeydew continue to be plentiful from Mexico.

Watermelons

Organic Seedless Watermelons remain steady out of Mexico, on excellent quality. There may be gaps in June as Mexico finishes up and California begins harvests. Organic Mini Seedless Watermelons will be very promotable out of Mexico. Harvests continue to flush, and supplies are strong with excellent quality.

Peppers

Organic Red, Yellow, and Orange Bell Peppers from Canada and Holland remain in steady supply as June begins, with quality expected to remain outstanding from both regions. Organic Green Peppers from Georgia continue in steady supply and excellent quality. Pricing is expected to remain elevated due to limited supplies industry-wide from last month. Organic Mini Peppers remain plentiful and excellent in quality.
