By mid-July, organic grape production will have shifted to California’s San Joaquin Valley from both the Coachella Valley and Mexico, adding some stability and predictability to a deal in which supplies in the market didn’t necessarily match the rhetoric, most notably from Mexico.
OPN recently connected with Ashley Koff RD to learn more about her mission to help others get and keep their better health powered by better nutrition. An award-winning nutrition expert, she’s a passionate advocate for organic produce as a better nutrition choice, but feels the industry could do better with media relations.
“Many people think of biologicals as biocontrol products with biocidal activity that destroys life like a fungicide or herbicide would,” Aaron Waltz, Ph.D., director of field trials and nutrition for Concentric, a producer of OMRI-listed biological products, said. “But there are biologicals that do a number of other things, such as stimulating the rhizosphere and promoting nutrient efficiency, utilization and solubilization activity.”
OriginO was one of the first companies to produce organic greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers in British Columbia. OPN had the opportunity to speak with OriginO founder Raymond Wong about his history in organic fresh produce and thoughts on the future of organics.
