Demand for fresh produce has skyrocketed during the pandemic, with organic produce outperforming its conventional counterpart. During Wednesday's United Fresh LIVE! Organics session, OPN Co-Founder Tonya Antle talked with industry leaders about the current state of organics and what trends are expected to continue in the future.
Jeff Huckaby is the President of Grimmway Farms and Cal-Organic Farms. He manages over 45,000 acres growing 65 different certified organic vegetables. The Organic Trade Association (OTA) recently honored Jeff Huckaby with their Organic Farmer of the Year award. OPN had the opportunity to speak with Jeff about the award, his vision and commitment to the organic produce industry.
Hepworth Farms is an ultra-diverse 550-acre organic farm in Milton, New York. Established in 1818, the farm currently grows over 400 varieties of vegetables and boasts an impressive clientele, including Whole Foods, Four Seasons Produce, Baldor, Albert’s, FreshDirect, and the Park Slope Food Coop, among many others.
Total organic fresh produce sales and volume continue their double digit growth over last year, with May sales and volume increasing 16 percent from the same period in 2019, according to the May 2020 Organic Produce Performance Report released exclusively by the Organic Produce Network and Category Partners.
