While most people are somewhat familiar with Earth Day and give a nod to April 22 each year, below are some interesting facts about Earth Day and how various companies and organizations are celebrating in the U.S.

On April 22, 1970, the Earth took center stage as twenty million souls took to the streets in defense of the natural world. The rally cry was for clean air, water and soil, a society that protected the wondrously biodiverse planet we call home. Forty-seven years later, the earth is a cleaner albeit hotter orb and organic farmers play a crucial role in protecting the planet's future.
Chef John Moeller joined the White House kitchen in 1992 as sous-chef to Pierre Chambrin and later, Walter Scheib, eventually acting as White House Chef in 2005. During the thirteen years he served as chef to three first families – Presidents George H.W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton and George W. Bush.
Taylor Farms unveiled a new, three tiered renewable and alternative energy system at its Gonzales, CA facility last week. Utilizing wind, solar and cogeneration energy, the new system will offset energy usage by an average of 90 percent, making it the most advanced system of its kind in the agriculture industry.
