In the late ’80s, British Columbia had a growing need for organic produce, with many consumers and retailers—especially in Vancouver—searching for this hard-to-find category, and only a small organic cooperative—Wild West Organic Harvest—seemingly not able to handle the demand.
Cathy Calfo has been a guiding force at CCOF, serving as the Executive Director/CEO since 2011. She will be leaving the organization in March to reconnect with friends and family.
The first of six educational sessions at Organic Produce Summit 2019 will focus on the changing role of wholesalers and distributors of organic fresh produce and its impact in providing fresh organic items to consumers across the globe. “The Evolution of Wholesaler/Distributors of Organic Fresh Produce”, will feature leaders from three geographic regions of the United States discussing the evolution and expansion of organic fresh produce wholesalers and distributors.
Shipments of organic blueberries from Chile have exploded this winter, and there should be promotable supplies of the category from all sources from now through April and into May.
